Accessibility

Our Commitment

PDF Studio is committed to making our platform accessible to all users, including those with visual, auditory, motor, or cognitive disabilities. We believe that essential tools for document management should be usable by everyone, and we continuously work to improve the accessibility of our website and tools.

We follow the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 as our benchmark and strive to meet Level AA conformance across our platform. While we have not yet been formally audited, we apply accessibility best practices throughout our design and development process.

Accessibility Features

PDF Studio includes the following accessibility features:

  • Semantic HTML: We use proper heading hierarchy, landmark regions, and semantic elements throughout the site for clear document structure.
  • Keyboard navigation: All interactive elements can be accessed and operated using keyboard controls. Focus states are visible to help keyboard users track their position.
  • Screen reader support: We use ARIA labels, roles, and descriptions where needed to provide context for screen reader users.
  • Color contrast: We maintain sufficient color contrast ratios between text and background elements to ensure readability for users with low vision.
  • Responsive design: The site adapts to different screen sizes and orientations, and supports zooming up to 200% without loss of content or functionality.
  • Dark mode: A theme toggle allows users to switch between light and dark modes, accommodating different visual preferences and sensitivities.
  • Reduced motion: We respect the user's prefers-reduced-motion setting and minimize animations for users who have enabled this preference.

Known Limitations

We acknowledge the following accessibility limitations and are working to address them:

  • PDF file previews within tool modals may not be fully accessible to screen readers, as PDF rendering is handled by third-party libraries with limited ARIA support.
  • Drag-and-drop file upload areas may present challenges for keyboard-only users. Alternative file selection via button is always provided.
  • Some interactive elements within tool configuration panels may need additional ARIA attributes for complete screen reader compatibility.
  • Our accessibility testing is primarily manual. We plan to integrate automated accessibility testing (such as axe-core) into our development pipeline.

Assistive Technology Compatibility

PDF Studio is tested with commonly used assistive technologies, including VoiceOver (macOS and iOS), NVDA (Windows), and JAWS (Windows). We also test with mainstream browsers including Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge. If you experience issues with a specific assistive technology, please let us know so we can investigate and improve compatibility.
